Harlow Rugby Club Youth Round Up  Sunday 11th September 2005.

Woodford Colts  7  Harlow Colts 22.

The new Harlow Colts squad dominated the first half of this hard fought contest at Woodford and spent most of the first half in Woodford territory without success. It wasn’t until the thirtieth minute that they were able to score when following a ten minute spell in the Woodford twenty two prop Ross Delgreco powered his way over in the corner despite the close attentions of two Woodford defenders.Harlow lead 5-0 at the interval and returned to the attack in the second half. Winning the ball in midfield Skipper Kane Claridge broke through the middle and beat the full back to score under the posts, fly half Charlie Kavanagh converting the try.

This spurred Woodford to come back and they attacked with a series of rucks and mauls down the wing. Some indiscipline on Harlow’s part cost them dear when Woodford scored a converted try to bring the score to 12-7.Harlow returned to the offensive and forced a penalty which inside centre Wayne Heapy stroked over.

With minutes remaining outside centre Jake Kent-Pope intercepted a loose pass in the Woodford half and his speed took him clear to score Harlow’s third try which Heapy converted. A well deserved victory for the Young Rams.

Harlow Colts. Delgreco, Ray, Kanabar, Thomas, Barr, Jessey, Smith.A., Claridge (Capt.), Fitzpatrick, Kavanagh. Heapy, Kent-Pope, Quinton, Mounsey, Banks, Newbury, Smith.D, Hearne, Rundell, Watts, Hayden.

Harlow Under 16’s 3  Finchley Under 16’s  45.

Finchley’s powerful forwards proved to be too much for a plucky Harlow side who were dominated in the set pieces and outrucked throughout this match. Despite their inferiority in size and strength the Harlow boys competed well until the end and played better in the second half. Finchley raced to a 31-3 lead at Half time, Harlow’s only points coming from the boot of Barney Goodey whose well struck penalty earned them three points.

Harlow made good progress on occasions but couldn’t cross the line. In the second half they restricted Finchley to two tries showing their commitment to the final whistle.

Harlow Under 16’s. Carter, Mortimer, Ashoori, Rees, Daglish, Clark.James, Ashcroft, Weston, Hockley, Goodey, Reed, Hitchcock, Edwards, Jenna, King, Barnes, Clark.Jamie, Ansell, Hayden, Algrove.

Finchley Under 14’s 5  Harlow Under 14’s  5.

With the scores even in this match the game had to be abandoned when the referee injured a leg and had to be sent to hospital. Only a few minutes later the Harlow team coach was also injured when several players crashed into him as he was following play on the touch line. With two injured players as well it was decided to abandon the match.

Finchley Under 13’s  15  Harlow Under 13’s  10.

Two well matched sides competed in this close game at Finchley , the home side just managing to win with their speedy three quarters too fast for the Harlow defence. The scores were level at 0-0 at the interval.
